Beyond The Slip – Steven Gerrard’s Finest Moments
That slip against Chelsea by Steven Gerrard has been doing the rounds on social media ever since it happened and unluckily for Mr G – it will be around forever. Vines have been made in abundance and rival fans will fall over themselves to create memes, immortalising the moment when Demba Ba galloped away, shortly before breaking Scouse hearts.
Personally speaking, I’m a neutral. I don’t support Liverpool and I have no hate for them either. And truth be told; I did find the aforementioned piss-taking amusing at the time.
But there was another side to it. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. As much as I dislike overused football cliches; Gerrard ‘always gave 110%’ and he lead with obvious passion for the game and his club. With recent confirmation that he’ll leave Anfield at the end of the season – here are a few things that Steven Gerrard should proudly whack on his football CV.

Chief misogynist Andy Gray tells it better…
Liverpool Captain
Haters like to go on about the fact that he was once pictured as an Everton fan as a kid. But as an adult, make no doubt about it that Gerrard has always been ‘Mr Liverpool.’ His constant lung-busting runs, last-ditched tackles and passionate celebrations after each goal highlight exactly where he stands. Not only that – but he’s fully deserved to wear the captains armband, since succeeding Sami Hyypyia in 2003.
England Captain
Gerrard has been one of the few high-level performers for England since captaining his country.
Hat-Trick Against Everton in his 400th Appearance For Liverpool
Nine Career Goals Against Manchester United
Everton are Liverpool’s rivals by geography, but Manchester United are Liverpool’s number one arch rivals – even Fergie agrees (he also said he didn’t rate Gerrard that much). Regardless of what he thought; Gerrard boasts an impressive nine goals against Man U.
Zidane Saying This About Him
(Zizou knows a thing or two about the game).
Named in The PFA Team Of The Year a Record Eight Times
Named in The FIFA World Eleven Three Times
He is, to date, the only footballer ever to have scored a goal in an FA Cup Final, a League Cup Final, a UEFA Cup Final and a Champions League Final
The FA Cup Final Extra-Time Strike Against West Ham
Istanbul Heroics
Liverpool looked down and out at half time of the 2005 Champions League Final, trailing 3-0 to firm favourites AC Milan. In the second half Gerrard spearheaded an amazing comeback with Liverpool scoring three goals in a dramatic six-minute spell to level the scores at 3–3, with goals from Gerrard, Vladimír Smicer and Xabi Alonso.
It’s going to be weird seeing Stevie G in other colours. Brendan Rodgers may have made some questionable signings, but his quote on the subject of Gerrard’s departure was spot on:
“This is an era where ‘legend’ is vastly overused, but in his case it actually doesn’t do him justice.”
