Newcastle Fan’s Cock Up Sees Him Buy 56 Train Tickets
Away days can be tough if you’re a die hard supporter that simple cannot afford to miss a single one of your beloved team’s games. When Newcastle United faced Oxford away in the FA Cup last Saturday, the Geordie faithful faced a 500-mile round trip to watch their team, quite a journey and one that could prove expensive.
One hapless fan decided to take the advice of his mate when navigating his way down south and decided to try and save as much money as possible by buying train tickets to individual stations during the route rather than buying one direct to Oxford.
Johnny Haywood thought that he’d cracked it when he managed to saving £50 off the original price for his train tickets and relaxed with an F-you attitude towards the railway system. What Johnny boy hadn’t quite thought about was the sheer amount of train tickets that he had racked up for him and his Mrs, 56 to be in fact.
So after navigating his way around 14 different stops going down, and then doing so again on the way back up, all the while having to get off and back on the train again, Johnny and his girlfriend managed to see join Black and White army in Oxford and see his side…. lose 3-0 to a gash League 1 side (comparatively gash, Oxford fans, comparatively.)
If you’ve ever wondered what 56 train tickets looked like, why you ever would have done so is beyond us but hey, we don’t judge here, the here you go.
Poor Johnny was even made an example of by the local news and like any self respecting man would do, he laid the blame on his mate stating that it was “the worst advice he’d ever received”.
