APOEL v Rosenborg Descends into Violent Chaos After Late Goals

The Champions League qualifying match between APOEL Nicosia and Rosenberg descended into chaos last night that lead to the Rosenborg backroom staff receiving death threats from the APOEL staff. Rosenberg went into last night’s game 2-1 up from the first leg knowing that a clean sheet would get them through to the knockout stages.

The game itself was tense and feisty with APOEL looking for that illusive goal and going into the 90th minute at 0-0 the pressure started to build. Then in an incredible twist of events, APOEL not only got the first goal that they were looking for but went on to score 3 goals in total in injury time, the third of which coming in the 9th minute of stoppage time to send Nicosia through to the next round.

As the game closed the Cypriot fans were in jubilant mood as the Norwegian champions walked back into the dressing room, understandably devastated.

After the game Kåre Ingebrigtsen, manager of Rosenborg stated that backroom staff from APOEL had told one of his coaches that they were going to “Find your hotel and kill you,” quite why the victorious team were so angry is unclear.

The Rosenborg players, already bitterly disappointed with their defeat then had to leave early from the stadium after being pelted with objects by the APOEL fans, not a great night for Rosenborg then.

Perhaps APOEL are trying to create a cauldron like atmosphere for their next opponents but we’re sure that UEFA will have something to say about this.
