The Moment 10 Year Old Jay Beatty Found Out He’d Won Goal of the Month
Heartwarming football stories don’t come much better than this, lifelong Celtic fan Jay Beatty, who is 10 years old and suffers from Down’s Syndrome, has set the football world alight with his halftime penalty at the game between Celtic and Hamilton which he successfully converted .
Celtic won the game 2-0 and Hamilton announced on their Twitter page that the score was indeed 3-0, doffing their cap to young Jay’s penalty. More was to come for the 10 year old as his goal was entered into the SPL goal of the month competition, and there was only ever going to be one winner.
Jay collected a massive 97% of the vote and became the first non-player to win the goal of the month award, and here’s the best bit, his Mum filmed the moment that Georgios Samaras announced his victory on Sky Sports and Jay’s reaction. Brilliant. See the video here.
Massive respect to Jay’s favourite player, Georgios Samaras, for his involvement in the story and huge kudos to the SPL for making a young fans’ dream come true.
