Zenit St Petersburg Receive Bizarre Burger King Request
Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg have a received a 5.7 million pound offer from famous restaurant chain Burger King to change their name to Zenit Burger King. The bizarre request was revealed by the Russian press who got hold of a letter written by the burger giant to the Russian club.
Sponsors are a very real part of football these days when it comes to stadium names such as the King Power stadium, the Emirates, Sports Direct arena etc etc. and obviously football shirts have long had sponsors on the front but the renaming of a club after brands should be something that remains in the lower leagues. If we start now where the hell will it end? Pornhub City, Durex United, Queens Park Space Raiders, it could become ridiculous.
Thankfully for the world of football, Zenit have denied the request for the name change and they have done so in brilliant fashion posting this on their Twitter page:

The Russian club have done a great job here sticking it to the man, and to us, 5.7 million seems like not very much money when you consider what the restaurant chain are asking for, to put it into context, that is almost 6 Moussa Sissoko’s!! Whilst we are over the moon that the Russian club have decided against the name change, their fans are a little miffed as they were counting on free burgers for season ticket holders. Bad luck to the fans but very much a win for the world of football.
